Speeding up windows XP shutdown and boot time

One of the methods to speed up the windows XP boot is using boot defragment. Its enable by default, still it’s a good idea to check if it has been accidentally disabled resulting in slow boot startups. Enabling boot defragment put all the boot files next to one another on your hard disk. When boot files are in close proximity to one another, your system will start faster
GO to start--> Run --> type regedit--> Press enter
Go to following registry setting
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction
Select “Enable” from the right side of the screen --> right click--> click on modify--> and make sure the value written is Y as show below.

Close the registry editor and restart the pc.
Speeding up windows shutdown time using memory management
Page file (pagefile.sys) is used to store the temporary windows files. Because of security reasons it may be preferred to clear the paging file when the system shutdown because page file have temporary files which may be having passwords etc which you entered while browsing the internet. You may configure windows XP to not clear the page file while shutting down the system resulting in faster shutdowns.
Please note the security risks involved.
GO to start--> Run --> type regedit --> Press enter
Go to following registry setting
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Memory Management
Select “ClearPageFileAtShutdown” from the right side of the screen --> right click--> click on modify--> and make sure the value written is 0 as show below.

Close the registry editor and restart the pc.
